AgroLingua guest lecture on technical translation at Zuyd University of Applied Sciences for students of the Maastricht School of Translation and Interpreting

Guest lecture Zuyd University of Applied Sciences

Zuyd ranks among the top tier of major Dutch universities of applied sciences and is home to the Maastricht School of Translation and Interpreting. It is the only full-time institution of higher education that provides study programmes for translators and interpreters.

AgroLingua was first asked to deliver a guest lecture on technical translation a few years ago and this presentation has since become a fixed feature for first-year students at Zuyd. We gave our latest lecture on 28 May to a large group of first-year students as part of their module on technical writing. It is always refreshing to meet the new intake of language professionals and hear about their motivations and expectations for the future. They can also benefit from our practical real-life experience in the sector.

The rapid rise of AI is radically altering the landscape of the translation services industry, so it is encouraging to see that students still choose this study programme and recognise its value. While AI has certainly had a revolutionary impact on the sector, human expertise is predicted to remain at the heart of LSP in the future, meaning graduates will still be in demand for a role in the industry.

A big thanks to Cyril Philipsen for the warm welcome and good luck to all the students with their assignment.

“It’s always a pleasure to welcome AgroLingua back to Zuyd! Thank you for inspiring our first-year students by sharing valuable practical insights from the world of translation. This contribution is immensely beneficial for our next generation of language professionals!”

Cyril Philipsen
